Different: We spent the day touring, exploring
different facets of London, many that we had never seen before.
The Same: Spent the day exhausted, trying to
muddle our way through another incredible vision of another exciting adventure.
Different: Toured Shakespeare’s Globe theater,
a unique reconstruction very specific to London.
The Same: Overslept, had dad drag me out of
bed to rush through the tube and the London streets to try and make the tour at
the Globe theatre, where Shayna and mom had been primed and poised for the past
hour. We made it, with seconds to spare.
Different: Learned all about how the stage was
constructed and how different directors assemble the plays and Shakespearean
settings.
The same: I slept during the second half of
the tour.
Different: We walked along the Thames River and
stopped in a “Youth Culture” exhibit, featuring photos of the British youth
club from the 1960s through the present, along with a photo booth and a badge
making station.
The Same: Shayna and mom enjoyed the exhibit
while I sat at a small table that hit my knees and did an art project aimed at ages
6-13. Despite this fact, I still did not finish my project and begrudgingly posed
for a family picture with an obvious promotional frame and cheesy slogan.
Different: We rode the Tube to a famous London
market, marked by the “Notting Hill” tube stop.
The Same: Mom was disappointed that Shayna and
I weren’t excited about a 1980s romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant and Julia
Roberts we had never seen.
Different: We found an awesome café type place
called “Bubbleology”, a hip place that sold many interesting types of Boba Tea.
I ordered the “House Mystery Special,” a mystery concoction that tasted of
peach, orange, with just a hint of hand soap.
The Same: My first choice was a Starbucks Frappacino
near the Tube stop, but the line was too long.
Different: Explored the intricate booths and
mini shops of Portobello market, complete with antique cameras and cheap London
graphic tees.
The Same: Pushed and shoved our way through
cheap trinkets on a hot street in June while dad looked for a chair, Shayna
found all the cool shops, Mom took in the sights, and I disappeared into the
stitches and beads knitting store at the end of the road.
Also the same: Family refused to let me buy a single
ball of yarn. Not even the purple one with the puffy threads.
Different: Mom organized evening tea at The
Bentley hotel, an occasional stomping ground for celebrities and rich people.
The Same: I was very tired, and complained and
may or may not have cried until family allowed me to sleep/rest in the
comfortable hotel room. I may or may not have spent the majority of the time
watching Social Justice and Feminism YouTube videos. I most likely did not finish
the very necessary repacking of my exploding suitcase since we were leaving the
next morning at 9 am.
Different: I Face Timed with Rachel Arditi from
London at 10:30 pm, since we cannot physically hang out tonight.
The Same: I Face Timed with Rachel Arditi at
10:30 pm since we could not physically hang out. (For those of you who do not
know our friendship, we spend a lot of time together to say the least. We will
be living together next year in an apartment by Pitzer College (WOOT WOOT), but
every time we have been separated for even a weekend it constitutes separation
anxiety. Love you Rach <3)
And that
concluded another exhausting day of the Dollinger travels! Today we are getting
a driver to take us to Oxford, as well as making some stops along the way for
food, castles, and restroom by the side of the road.
With love
from London England,
Rivi
