Marci and Shayna went to meet a friend from American Jewish World Service for breakfast. Thankfully, they let me sleep, and dad woke me up around 10 am. I ate a leftover wrap from last night's dinner (which was just Shayna and me going down the street to a salad place) and watched Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Dad ended up watching with me, and throughout the day, we have had many fantastic discussions about what it means to be an advocate and/or a feminist.
I have learned too harshly the consequences of posting my opinions online, so I will not do so unless someone explicitly would like me to. Comment below :)
I will say that I believe in equal rights for men and women (including trans* and genderqueer). There are many institutionalized problems in our society in the way we treat the issue of gender. John Oliver's piece last night, which I highly recommend, discussed the status of women on the Internet, online harassment, as well as the new problem of "Revenge Porn".
Dad and I spent a lot of the day talking about issues that are near and dear to my heart, so I thought I would spend today's post introducing the issue of feminism so that I may return to it later if it seems appropriate.
Women on the Internet is a very complex issue regarding feminism and I think it is becoming more and more prevalent. Shoutout as well to Professor Juhasz and my Learning From YouTube class for teaching me a lot of what I know today about the issues of being female on the internet as well as internet feminism. This was my final project for that class if anyone is interested:
